Pakistan and Iran resumed trade on 7 March 2020, after 13 days of suspension amid fears of coronavirus outbreak. According to the Dawn, a senior official of Levies Force stated that over 35 trucks loaded with Liquefied Petroleum Gas and other commodities were allowed to enter Pakistan through the Taftan dry port, further stating that the Iranian drivers and cleaners were being screened after their arrival at the Taftan border. (Dawn, 8 March 2020)

Pakistan had closed its borders with Iran since 23 February 2020 after two cases of coronavirus was confirmed in the country. However, due to the high number of Pakistani pilgrims who need to return the immigration process was reopened and more than 35000 Pakistani pilgrims have returned from Iran. On returning the people were quarantined at Pakistan House in Taftan but due to an increase in the number of people space become an issue causing authorities to shift the pilgrims to another place.

As reported in the Dawn, Deputy Commissioner of Chagai Agha Sher Zaman stated that “we are struggling every day to establish accommodation facilities for pilgrims. They have been given food, medicines and other items according to their needs.” (Dawn, 8 March 2020). Since the outbreak, Pakistani authorities have taken measures to contain the spread of the coronavirus in the country with screening machines being installed and quarantine centres established at the border.
