PR Internship

Pakistan Reader (PR) is an academic initiative within the Conflict Resolution and Peace Research (CRPR) Programme at the National Institute of Advanced Studies (NIAS) in Bangalore. PR aims to study contemporary Pakistan with a comprehensive and regular focus, build a team of young scholars within India, and create a network of global scholars across the world.

PR offers internships for students and young scholars pursuing Masters, MPhil and Ph.D. It provides young scholars inclusive coverage of social, economic, energy, ethnic and political spheres of Pakistan. As a part of the research activities, the Course offers internships under three categories: Short-term (3 Months), Long-term (6 Months)

What to expect?

During the internship, the students will be undertaking the following:

  • Interns will be a part of the Pakistan Reader Team and take part in actives which includes attending regular lectures and discussions.
  • As a part of the internship, interns will be required to write regular notes the programme (“Pakistan Reader - Evening Brief” and “PR Insights”), 1000-words commentary, essays and reports.
  • Interns will be associated with a project depending on their areas of interest and availability.
  • Interns will make presentations on contemporary developments within Pakistan, on a regular basis.
  • Interns will be assigned institutional, editorial, research, writing and other administrative tasks to support the research work at the programme.

  • An outline of the purpose of undertaking an internship with the Pakistan Reader course (250-300 words)
  • Expectations from the internship period (250-300 Words)
  • Duration of internship (Minimum 6-8 weeks; please mention the exact period with month and dates)
  • Area(s) of interest (300-500 words)
Accommodation and Stipend

NIAS has a limited facility for accommodation, which is currently full of regular Ph.D. scholars. However, there are numerous Paying Guest accommodation facilities closer to the Institute. Unfortunately, there is no stipend available. The internship is unpaid. Scholars are expected to take care of their travel and accommodation.
