On 8 May, Inter-Service Public Relations (ISPR) warned the Imran Khan, of legal action over his “mala fide statements and propaganda,” accusing a senior intelligence official of their involvement in the plot to assassinate the former Prime Minister. They issued that the statements made were “irresponsible and baseless.” Imran Khan highlighted that he himself twice was a victim of assassination attempts.
Shehbaz Sharif on 6 May supported the statement of ISPR in his tweet: “Imran Niazi’s act of routinely maligning and threatening [the] Pakistan Army and Intelligence Agency for the sake of petty political gains is highly condemnable. His levelling of allegations without proof against Gen Faisal Naseer and our Intelligence Agency [sic] officers, cannot be allowed nor tolerated.” Imran Khan responded with multiple questions on the validity of Shehbaz Sharif's accusations and is seeking clarification on whether military officers are above the law and why the Wazirabad JIT was sabotaged while the PTI government was in power.
Additionally, he pointed out a specific incident that happened on March 18th, where the ISI took over the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Judicial Complex before his appearance there. He asked why the ISI personnel were present in the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) and why they were disguised as lawyers. He questioned their motive for being there and what business they had in the complex. Imran Khan stated that there is one powerful individual and there are associates who are above the law, a clear indication that there is no rule of law in Pakistan. He said: “Then it is time for us to officially declare that in Pakistan there is only law of the jungle where might is right.”
