On 6 December, COAS Gen Syed Asim Munir reiterated the military’s resolve to fight against terrorism until enduring peace and stability is achieved in the country. The COAS made this statement during his maiden trip to the Pak-Afghan border in the Tirah area of the Khyber district where he met with deployed troops. He said, “Our fight against terrorism will continue with the support of the nation till we achieve enduring peace and stability…No one will be allowed to disrupt the hard-earned gains of war against terror made thus far.”
Reaffirmation amid the surge in terrorist attacks
COAS Munir’s reiteration of the military’s resolve to fight against terrorism comes amid the surge of terrorist attacks across the merged areas and other parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the TTP calling of the ceasefire with the government. In recent months, there has been an evident resurgence of militancy in Malakand, the southern belt and merged districts, with increasing intensity of attacks on law enforcement personnel.
